MPA Students Visit Harrisburg

Students with elected officials in the Capitol entryway
MPA students Lora Bynum, Kyasha Tyson‎, Latesha Sims, and E.J. Mentry joined undergraduate students from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and visited Villanovans in elected office in Harrisburg.

Last semester, four MPA students joined CLAS undergraduates and spent a day shadowing Villanovans in elected office. The program was a collaboration between the President’s Office and the Office for Undergraduate Students. The Pennsylvania lawmakers who spent the day with Villanova students were Senator Michael Stack, ’92 VLS; Senator Lisa Boscola, ’84 CLAS, ’85 MA; Representative Kevin Haggerty ’95 CLAS and Representative Dan Truitt ’92 COE.

Latesha Sims, one of the MPA students who went on the trip, had this to say about the experience:

“I attended the Harrisburg trip to learn more about how elected officials in PA interact with the Villanova community. I was especially interested in reaching out to people in order to learn more about government and its practical application in our daily lives. At the time I attended the trip, I was also looking for a job and thought having the opportunity to shadow legislators would be instrumental in determining which specific skills I need to acquire or sharpen as I complete the program.”
